ADVISORY BOARD MEETING MINUTES
FEBRUARY 19, 2003

I. Call to Order
- The meeting was called to order at 3:35.
II. Welcome/Introductions
III. Approval of Minutes
- Minutes of the January meeting were
distributed and accepted.
IV. Unfinished Business
- Copies of essays have been made for student
jurors to review.
- Six cases have been received. A HCHS jury
and a court room need to be arranged and
defendants interviewed for February session.
- Joyce spoke with principal of West Middle
School regarding middle school age jurors.
Mark wants to be sure that adequate training
is provided. Still in preliminary stage and
needs more discussion and planning.
- Discussion regarding juror request to add an
option to the Verdict Form. The request was to
make recommendation that the defendant be
referred to their school counselor. The Board
saw no problem with adding the recommendation,
understanding it was not a requirement, but
recommended. The Board also discussed adding
CHOICE, as another program option for referral
recommendation.
- Joyce met with representative from Junior
Welfare League regarding grant for funding a
video for training and public information.
V. New Business
- Joyce expressed concern with the lack of
youth member attendance. School
representatives were asked to require student
participation as a member.
VI. Announcements
- The next board meeting will be March 19,
2003 at 3:30, Third Floor Conference Room.
