TEEN COURT
ADVISORY BOARD MEETING
MINUTES

March 20, 2002

Present: Joyce Barkel, Duane Baker, Jennifer DeYoung, Mark Geister, Michael Kersman, Adam Rett, Al Rios, Keith Schaap, Ryan Sharar, Cindy VanderPeyl, Josh Wise

Absent:  Nicole Bierema, Chelsea Brown (excused), Melissa Elliott (excused), Jeremy Heavilin, Lee Hoeksema, Alice Holliman (excused)

I. Call to Order 

· The meeting was called to order at 3:30 p.m. at City Hall, 270 South River Avenue, Holland, Michigan by Mark Geister.

II. Unfinished Business 

· There was no response from recruitment efforts through the Volunteer Opportunities Column. Joyce will contact applicants on file, who indicated an interest in the Teen Court Coordinator position to determine their level of interest.

· ADMINISTRATION REPORT: Joyce Barkel gave a report which included:

1. Currently three referrals are ready to be processed at the April session.

2. HCTV Project: On hold indefinitely

3. HTC Program Expansion: On hold indefinitely.*

4. SECOND NOTICE! Joyce requested a list of high school students who volunteered for HTC and the number of hours in training and jury duty during 2001.

III. New Business

· April session: It was determined that Zeeland High School will provide the student jury. Location: Fillmore Complex. Adam will make contact with Melissa regarding the April session, and ask her to contact Joyce to finalize the session date & location.

· *Program Expansion: After much discussion of the expansion process—it was put on hold indefinitely. Clarification: As long as the program is operated by the city of Holland -- it will not expand to Ottawa County. Point of Order: Without financial and administrative support from another parent agency the city does not have resources to handle the expansion of referrals.

IV. Announcements 

· The next meeting is scheduled for April 17, at 3:30 p.m. in the third floor conference room, at City Hall, 270 South River Avenue, Holland, Michigan. Please contact Joyce Barkel at (616) 355-1324 by April 15, 2002 if you are unable to attend.

· STATEMENT FOR BOARD MEMBER ATTENDANCE: The bylaws of the Teen Court Advisory Board states: Failure to attend three (3) advisory board meetings in one (1) calendar year, without proper notification may result in involuntary removal from the board.
