I.                    Call to Order

·        The meeting was called to order at 3:45 p.m. at City Hall, 270 South River Avenue, Holland, Michigan by Mark Geister.

II.                  Unfinished Business

·         Next months meeting date was set back to May 15, 2002.

·        ADMINISTRATION REPORT: A report was distributed which included:

1.      Currently one referral is ready to be processed at the May session

2.       Seven cases were handled on April 15th at 58th District Court.

3.      HCHS or ZHS students were not invited to the Annual Volunteer Appreciation Event on April 26th because a list of their names was not submitted as requested. Please submit a list of student volunteers and volunteer hours for FY2001.

4.      Program expansion was discussed. Conclusion: Until additional funding resources have been identified and provided, the program will not be expanded County-wide.  The primary referral source will continue to be Holland Police Department. The OCSD and WOHS representatives question the need for their involvement if the program isn't going to expand. Further discussion/decisions to seek additional funding will be continued at the next meeting.

III.                New Business

·        May session: It was determined that Holland Christian High School will provide the student jury. Chelsea will make contact with Duane. Duane will check with Joyce for available dates, and then schedule a courtroom with Nicole.

·        A discussion of poor board member attendance occurred. It was decided that a reminder should be mailed out to remind board members and other Teen Court participants about meetings and court dates.

·        The process of choosing a jury was discussed. While not being too strict, some type of process needs to be implemented for unity of the jury selection process. Further discussion will occur next month, with more members present.

·        At the April session, a table in jury room B was vandalized. Mark and Melissa will talk with their students, although no bill is expected for repairs, if Mark or Melissa find out who did it, they would like a bill to be prepared. A letter will be prepared as an apology to the court.
