Absent: Duane Baker (excused), Lee Hoeksema (excused).

I. Call to Order

• The meeting was called to order at 3:35 P.M. at City Hall, 270 South River Ave., Holland, Michigan by Al Rios.

II. Welcome/Introductions

• Mark Ponitz from Allegan County Family Court Juvenile Division was introduced to the Board. Also introduced was Courtney Klein, a junior at Hope College, who will be doing an internship with Teen Court.

III. Approval of Minutes

• The minutes of the August meeting were approved.

IV. Unfinished Business

• Mark Ponitz explained their diversion programs for first-time offenders. Allegan County will likely begin referring juveniles to Teen Court for incidents occurring within the City of Holland. Al will make sure HPD has no objections. Teen Court will provide Referral forms to Allegan County, which also serve to confirm successful compliance with Teen Court sentence.
• A Teen Court session was held on September 16 with jurors from Holland High. Two cases were heard.

V. New Business

• The next Teen Court session will be on October 8 in West Olive. Jurors will be from Holland Christian High School.
• Mark Ponitz was asked to become a member of the Advisory Board. This must be approved before he can commit.
• We currently have Teen Court jury participation from Holland High and Holland Christian High School. The class that previously provided jurors from Zeeland High School has been eliminated and no indication from Zeeland staff that they will be participating.
• Chanda announced that it is National Teen Court month and offered posters and book marks.
• Robin Rett has resigned from Teen Court Advisory Board.
• Cindy VanderPeyl was appointed to record meeting minutes.

VI. Announcements

• The next meeting will be Wednesday, October 16, 2002 at 3:30, Third Floor Conference Room. Please contact Joyce Barkel if you are unable to attend (355-1324).
