ADVISORY BOARD MEETING
MINUTES
November 14, 2001

I. Call to
Order
- The meeting was called to order at 3:30 p.m.
at City Hall, 270 South River Avenue, Holland,
Michigan by Mark Geister.
II. Unfinished Business
- REFERRAL SOURCES: Additional referral
options were evaluated. Statistics were
presented on the possible caseload level
if/when Teen Court accepts all eligible Retail
Fraud referrals from throughout Ottawa County.
The effective target date is January 2002.
- SCHOOL/STUDENT VOLUNTEER RESOURCES: It is
necessary to involve additional school
resources to accommodate the additional
referrals. Lee Hoeksema will provide Joyce
Barkel a list of contact information for Grand
Haven, Jenison, and West Ottawa High Schools.
Contact will be made with the schools to
determine if they have an interest in
participating in the Teen Court program.
- REQUEST FOR PAID PART-TIME TEEN COURT
COORDINATOR: Based on a decision to
accept all eligible Retail Fraud referrals
from Ottawa County, it will be necessary to
request a part-time Teen Court Coordinator to
handle the potential workload. Joyce Barkel
will draft a letter to the city manager by the
next board meeting.
III. New Business
- NEXT TEEN COURT SESSION: December 13, at
5:30 p.m. at Holland District Court.
- ATTENDANCE: Due to a lack of quorum no
official votes/decisions could be made.
- NEW MEMBER: Ottawa County Sheriff’s
Department Sergeant Lee Hoeksema will serve as
the OCSD representative on the board.
IV. Announcements
- NEXT MEETING: December 12, at 3:30 p.m. in
the third floor conference room, at City Hall,
270 South River Avenue, Holland, Michigan.
